Dr. Patrick Nyamemba Tumbo
Dr Tumbo is a career Insurance Business Leader, with over 30 years of experience, currently serving as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Sanlam Kenya PLC and as a Leadership Council member of Sanlam Pan Africa Life.
In Kenya and beyond, Dr Tumbo has immensely contributed to the growth and development of the local and regional insurance sector. Dr. Tumbo has played a key role in the development of guiding policies, legislative advocacy and peer leadership for the establishment of critical pillars to accelerate insurance penetration in Kenya in line with the Vision 2030 National Development Agenda and this earned him the commendation from the President of Kenya as an Elder of the Burning Spear, EBS
Dr. Tumbo is a Chartered Insurer and a Fellow member of the Society of Fellows of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London. Dr. Tumbo holds a Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration; a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management, Marketing and International Business and a Bachelor of Commerce, Insurance Option. Dr. Tumbo has also attended several Corporate Governance, Leadership, Strategy and Advanced Management training programs from the Institute of Directors – Nairobi Kenya, IESE – Barcelona Spain, London Business School – London United Kingdom, Lagos Business School – Lagos Nigeria and the Strathmore Business School – Nairobi Kenya, among others.
Dr. Tumbo has a rare set of business acumen as demonstrated in the insurance sector, business development and corporate restructuring skills, having previously served at AIG Kenya, PTA Reinsurance (ZEP-Re), CIC Insurance Group and Jubilee Insurance Group in senior leadership positions. He is currently the Chairman & Trustee of the Insurance Training & Education Trust of Kenya and past Chairman of Association of Kenya Insurers. He is also the Chairperson, OESAI.
Dr. Tumbo has been honored with the ‘Africa Insurance CEO of the Year Award at AIO, the Insurance CEO of the Year and Life-Time Achievement Awards and the Gender Champion of the Year Award by the ILO and Federation of Women Entrepreneurs.

Jean-Alain is an insurance professional with extensive experience of practising on the African and European scenes. After starting his career in insurance with Island General Insurance (Mauritius) in 1994, he moved to Munich Re in 1998, and has evolved from a technical role in underwriting and claims for Marine (initially) and other Non-Life (General) classes of insurance business, to assuming a leadership role involving reinsurance underwriting and client management in Sub-Saharan African markets.
Since 2018, he works for reinsurance broking firm Ellgeo Re (Mauritius) Ltd, after having headed the Corporate Business division at Swan General Ltd (Mauritius), for two years. Jean-Alain is passionate about insurance and its role in the sustainable development of the African continent. He thrives on leadership challenges, and enjoys to see creativity at play be it professionally, leisurely or in arts.

Alex is the Managing Director of BK Insurance Ltd. He is responsible for the development of strategy, strategy implementation, management and overall performance of the company. He coordinates the company operations & oversees internal control systems. He has the duty to implement management information systems capable of sustaining growth, efficiency and effectiveness in the company’s operations. He is accountable for growth and sustainability of the company.
He joined Bank of Kigali in 2010 as a Legal Services Manager. He later, as a member of Senior Management headed Departments of Legal Services and Loan Recoveries, a position he held until 2016 when he became The Managing Director of BK General Insurance Ltd.
Alex started the taste of insurance industry while in Rwanda Social Security Board where he was a key member of the team in charge of modernizing the Social Security industry. He was the Head of Quality Assurance and a State Attorney in Rwanda Social Security Board. As a practicing Lawyer, he was a member of the Kigali Bar Association and a Member of the East African Law Society.
He is the Secretary General of Rwanda’s Insurance Association since 2017 and a Board Director of The East & Southern Africa Insurance Organisation (OESAI), representing Rwanda’s Insurance Market.
Alex holds a Bachelor’s of Laws (LLB) from the National University of Rwanda (NUR), a Master’s of Laws (LLM) majoring in International Commercial Law from The Robert Gordon University – United Kingdom and has completed an MBA – Strategic Management at Mount Kenya University. Mr. Musoke is the Chief Executive/ Principal Officer of Uganda Reinsurance Company (Uganda Re).
He also serves as an Executive Committee Member of Uganda Insurers Association and on the Academics, Research and Innovations Board committee of the Insurance Training College. He previously served on the Governing Council, Audit & Compliance Committee and Chairman of the Examinations Committee of the Insurance Training College of Uganda.
Mr. Musoke holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from ESAMI, he is a member and an associate of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance & Finance (ANZIIF) and is a Certified Professional Insurer recognised by the same Institute. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Insurance from the University of Delhi, India.
He has over 26 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry in the areas of underwriting, claims management, risk management, broking and reinsurance. P
rior to joining Uganda Re, Mr. Musoke served as Operations Manager at UAP General Insurance Company and Gras Savoye Uganda Insurance Brokers (now Willis Towers Watson) as General Manager/ Chief Executive.

Madeleine has fostered a career in reinsurance spanning three decades and accomplished notable milestones in planning and achieving sustainable value for key stakeholders, both internal and business collaborators within the Eastern and Southern Africa region. She holds exceptional skills in brand promotion, business development, team leadership, general management, and Corporate Governance; including key technical aspects of the business such as underwriting, portfolio administration, claims management, reinsurance, and retrocession.
Madeleine is credited with the successful set-up of Ghana Re. Kenya Regional Office, now performing competitively amongst five (5) local reinsurers in Kenya.

Alice is the Managing Director of FBC Insurance, a subsidiary of FBC Holdings Limited Zimbabwe. She is a seasoned insurance professional with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Alice is a holder of a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Insurance and Risk Management from NUST (Zimbabwe), an MBA from ESAMI (Tanzania) and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) UK.

Francis is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate of both the Chartered Insurance institute of London and Insurance Institute of Kenya. He has previously held a series of management positions at reputable insurance firms in Kenya before he joined Continental Re’s Kenyan subsidiary as head of operations and Risk management in 2013. He was later appointed the Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance for the Botswana subsidiary in November 2019.

Mrs. REGINE AKAYEZU is the Regional Director of SOCIETE COMMERCIALE GABONAISE DE REASSURANCE (SCG-RE), Regional Office in Rwanda, a reinsurance company with operations all over Africa and Headquarters in Gabon. The company started in 2012 as an initiative from the Gabonese state and local insurance companies in Gabon. The regional office in Rwanda was opened in July 2022 to support its client base in the Eastern and Southern African insurance markets.
She is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Sciences from the National University of Rwanda and has more than 10 years of experience in the reinsurance industry.
Her career in reinsurance started in Kenya with an internship at African Reinsurance Corporation, Nairobi Regional Office and later joined East Africa Reinsurance Company as Assistant Underwriter for Francophone Markets. She later joined Klapton, Nairobi office and rose in rank within the company to hold the position of Chief Underwriter in charge of developing business in East Africa before joining SCG-RE regional office in Rwanda.
Her joy is to network with people in the insurance and reinsurance industry all over the world and give reinsurance capacity for the development of the African insurance industry. She is passionate about sustainable insurance and currently building herself in that area to offer solutions to the industry.
