History

Organisation of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers (OESAI) was formed in 1973 as a result of the initiative of eight (8) Insurance Companies in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. The eight (8) founding Insurance Companies are listed below:

  • Kenya Reinsurance Corporation, Kenya
  • Zambia State Insurance Corporation Limited, Zambia
  • Kenya National Insurance Company Limited, Kenya
  • Jubilee Insurance Company Limited, Kenya
  • National Insurance Corporation of Tanzania Limited, Tanzania
  • National Insurance Corporation of Uganda Limited, Uganda
  • Pan Africa Insurance Company Limited, Kenya
  • Reinsurance Company of Mauritius

 

From the founding Member of eight (8) OESAI has expanded to 27 countries and the membership continues to grow steadily

At about the same time as OESAI was formed; other associations with almost similar objectives were formed in the African continent as is shown below:

  • African Insurance Organization – formed in 1972
  • West African Insurance Association – formed in 1973 and
  • FANAF, the Association for French speaking countries – formed in 1976
